Introduction to Coastal Floodplain Management

About this event

Instructor: Brienna Wirley, CFM, Environmental Program Specialist and Floodplain Management Coordinator, NYS Department of Environmental Conservation

Description: This course will provide an overview of National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) requirements that specifically apply to coastal areas. In New York State, coastal floodplains are found along the Atlantic Coast, Long Island Sound, Lower Hudson River, and the Great Lakes. Coastal processes, map features and zones found in coastal areas, and coastal floodplain development requirements are some of the topics that will be covered. Example scenarios will also be shared to demonstrate how to determine the base flood elevation in a coastal zone.

Whether you're new to coastal floodplain management or looking to refresh your knowledge, join us to strengthen your understanding of these unique NFIP requirements.
